Every Step of the Way: Building Community Workforce Capacity to Equitably Support Chest/Breastfeeding
hosted live on September 13, 2022, from 1:00-2:30 PM ET, for the fifth webinar of the 8-part “Every Step of the Way through the 1,000 Days” series, on Building Community Workforce Capacity to Equitably Support Chest/Breastfeeding.This session discussed strategies to equitably increase community capacity to provide consistent, tailored, evidence-based lactation education and support by regularly training all individuals who provide services to the family unit. The Asian South Asian Pacific Islanders (ASAP!) Breastfeeding Taskforce, in partnership with BreastfeedLA, a NACCHO Blueprint grantee, will share their Blueprint implementation strategies to build consistent, culturally tailored, messaging to providers, and their work to diversify the lactation workforce by fostering support and mentorship for aspiring lactation support providers within their communities. The American Heart Association, a CDC Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) recipient, co-presented with Texas Tech Medical School on their successful integration of a breastfeeding curriculum into a medical resident training program in El Paso, Texas. The curriculum established breastfeeding-friendly medical practice and increased access to lactation training and continuing education credits for existing local health professionals.
