Experiences of Racism Can Lead to Chronic Illness, Hypertension A study conducted by the American Heart Association found a link between experiencing racism and developing high blood pressure. The study centered on 1,845 black patients in Mississippi over a 13-year period who experienced moderate discrimination throughout their lifetime.
