Hello LHIT! I'm excited to kick off our first-ever Ask Me Anything (AMA) and to lead with the person who inspired this Community of Practice, Chris Collinge.

Chris Collinge is the Director of Information Technology for the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. This state health department is one of 67 counties and is located in Orlando, FL. His team has developed innovative strategies for state-wide IT projects and standardizations for mobile and tablet technologies for use with their EHR system.

Mr. Collinge received a Model Practice Award from NACCHO for Qflow client tracking system. His leadership in developing systems to support medication reconciliation and clinical decision support has impacted patients across the state and helped support the work of the 18,000+ employees in the Florida Department of Health.

Mr. Collinge continues to work on behalf of patients struggling with chronic conditions and finding innovative ways to improve their quality of life. Most recently, he led an effort to develop a system that allows Orange County staff to visually monitor TB patients taking medications remotely (Video Direct Observed Therapy); a process that was previously quite costly, and often had a negative impact on a patient's daily life. Mr. Collinge states that a big part of their success is due to management's commitment to hearing staff frustrations and concerns at every step they take toward MU attestation and that this approach has ultimately led to their most innovative solutions.

      Current Projects include:

    • Migration of DOH Orange data center to Windows Azure.
    • Migration of ACF Qflow client flow tracking system for 12 counties to Microsoft Azure.
    • Currently lead in rolling out Telehealth to DOH Florida for 67 counties.
Chris will be our first AMA. Feel free to ask him about his experience in the industry. We will be looking for a new AMA introduction for May. Thanks for getting us started, Chris!

    Hello Chris,

It is very nice to (virtually) meet you.  It sounds like you have some very exciting things going on.  Thank you for sharing.

I would like to ask what EHR system does your department use?
Also, what are some of the standardizations developed for mobile and tablet technologies for use with your EHR system?

Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response.

    Hi Tracey,

The Department of Health in Florida uses a in house created application called HMS (Health Management System) for its EHR.    We use Intune to Mange our IPhones and Mobile Iron to manage out Samsung devices for VDOT and Telehealth.   We use Tablet Technologies which range form Dell Latitude 2in1s to Microsoft surface tablets.   We are currently looking at ways to capture signatures electronically on these devices (mobile pc computers) to import into HMS.  Standards for these devices where approved through an Information Technology Workgroup which I use to chair for the state.  Standard includes device type, processor, memory, wireless technology and hard drive capacity needed for use with HMS.
