    I wanted to provide a space to include upcoming trainings, conferences, and events related to emergency preparedness, environmental preparedness, and chemical preparedness. This thread will be updated at least monthly from NACCHO with news on upcoming events you can register for.     EPA Webinar: SARA Title III for the Tribal Superfund Community, December 19, 2024, 2:00pm – 3:30pm (Eastern Time), Virtual

    This training is open to everyone. The target audience is the Tribal Superfund Community. It will provide an overview of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), which is also known as Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorizations Act (SARA Title III). The presentation will be focused on how EPCRA may be useful for remediation programs and offer an introduction to how Tribal communities can organize to work within the emergency planning and response framework to enhance chemical safety. The training will include an overview provided by US EPA's Jennifer Barre, and insights on the challenges and successes of Tribal implementation of EPCRA will be offered by Ruby Dawn Manning of the Shosone-Paiute Tribe.

    This training is open to everyone. This training will provide the foundational knowledge and resources needed for Tribes to develop their chemical emergency planning frameworks. This will include how to develop a Tribal Emergency Response Commission (TERC) or a Tribal Emergency Planning Committee (TEPC), and also to discuss the interactions between Tribes, States, regulated facilities, and locals. The training will include an overview provided by the US EPA's Jennifer Barre, and insights on the challenges and successes of Tribal implementation of EPCRA will be offered by Chuck Kmet, Emergency Manager for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community. 

    This will only include a brief regulatory overview of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), which is also known as Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA Title II). Please review the background information below for this fundamental knowledge.

    ChemLock: Introduction to Chemical Security Training Course, Virtual

    This course provides an introduction to identifying, assessing, evaluating, and mitigating chemical security risks. This easy-to-understand overview identifies key components and best practices of chemical security awareness and planning to help kickstart chemical security discussions at your facility.

    This course runs 1-2 hours in length and is appropriate for all personnel regardless of their level of involvement with dangerous chemicals.

    ChemLock: Secure Your Chemicals Security Planning Training Course, Virtual

    This course walks through how to create a tailored, scalable security plan that meets the business model and unique circumstances of a facility. Participants will learn the key elements of a chemical security plan and benefit from examples, lessons learned, and best practices.

    This course runs 2-3 hours in length and is designed to help leadership, facility security personnel, and other applicable personnel understand, develop, and implement a facility security plan.

    2025 NASTTPO Annual Workshop, Milwaukee, WI, April 21-25, 2025

    Ammonia Safety & Training Institute (ASTI) presents Safety Day training and chemical Tabletop Exercises (TTX) available to local industry and community responders

    • ASTI formed the National Safety Day Coalition together with IIAR, RETA, and GCCA to present safety and emergency response preparedness training at minimal cost to the attendees.
    • ASTI worked with Region 9 EPA to create ammonia Tabletop Exercises based upon the One Plan four stages of response; focused on engaging local, state, and federal emergency response plans.
    • ASTI organizes and leads a local committee of industry, public safety, and governmental leaders to create Safety Day presentations and Tabletop Exercises.
    • Sample topics include: hazard analysis, health & safety concerns, critical task readiness, e.g., emergency system control, rapid "grab and go" rescue by first responders, and methods of containment and control of ammonia events using proper methods e.g., personnel protective equipment, decontamination, teaming agreement with public safety responders, monitoring systems, and command team coordination and communications readiness to address on-site and off-site life safety and environmental receptors.
