The January Cardiovascular Health Community of Practice peer-learning call focused on the connection between hypertension, brain health and healthy aging. The session highlighted evidence linking cardiovascular risk factors to brain health and shared practical ways local health departments can integrate brain health into existing cardiovascular and hypertension initiatives.
A key takeaway was that many cardiovascular prevention strategies also support brain health, yet brain health is not consistently incorporated into hypertension or cardiovascular-focused public health work.
Why this matters
Hypertension is a major modifiable risk factor for both cardiovascular disease and dementia. Integrating brain health into cardiovascular prevention efforts can strengthen public health impact and support healthy aging.
