  • 1.  How Is Your Organization Governing AI?

    Posted 20 days ago

Good morning all! A couple of AI-related resources and events crossed my desk today, and I thought this community might find them interesting.

AI in Public Health Summit at George Mason University

The summit is taking place today and includes discussions on AI applications, innovation, and the future of public health practice.

If anyone is attending, I'd love to hear your takeaways. I couldn't make it myself, but please feel free to share key insights, lessons learned, or interesting presentations here in the community.

NEW! HSCC AI Cybersecurity Governance Framework

The Health Sector Coordinating Council (HSCC) Cybersecurity Working Group has released a new resource: Health Industry AI Cyber Governance Framework Implementation Guide.

The guide is designed to help healthcare and public health organizations establish cybersecurity governance for AI initiatives and addresses topics such as:

    • AI-specific cyber risks, including data poisoning, model drift, and adversarial attacks
    • Data privacy and integrity
    • AI supply chain security
    • Operational resilience
    • Governance considerations for machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI systems

The publication complements HSCC's previously released Third-Party AI Risk & Supply Chain Transparency Guide and references the group's evolving AI Cyber Glossary.

As more local health departments begin exploring AI governance, risk management, procurement, and implementation strategies, resources like this may be useful in shaping local policies and practices.

    💬 Discussion Question

How is your organization approaching AI governance today?

Are you developing formal policies, pilot programs, approval processes, cybersecurity reviews, or other guardrails for AI tools?

I currently have a pulse check survey out ahead of our June 15 LHIT meeting, but I'd love to hear thoughts here as well. If you'd like to attend and haven't received the invite, let me know.

Looking forward to hearing what you are all working on!

I am getting final approval. Which hotel are you staying at for Nacho 360? Also are most people flying in Sunday then leaving Saturday?

Hi Mechelle, I'm so glad you are finally coming to our conference! It feels like this has been years in the works. I won't know where I'm staying until the last minute because I'm staff and we go where we need to fill space (just being real). But I know other LHIT members have signed up for The Galt House. I'm also looking into some fun activities in the area. Looking forward to seeing you in Kentucky.
