Sarah, great topic! When we worked with a consortium of LHDs in the St. Louis region to deal with a radiological spill, we learned to our great pleasure that some of our local fire departments/emergency responders we way ahead of us in dealing with something like that, so we always recommend our LHD clients get to know their fire chiefs and EMs. Our experience was they were very willing to tell (and show) us what they knew and could do in such an event. It dramatically sped up our ability to respond quickly and wisely.

Hello everyone! Understanding how LHDs prepare for and manage chemical events is crucial to ensuring the safety of communities. With that in mind, I'd love to hear more about the specific protocols your LHD would follow when notified of a chemical spill. What are the immediate steps you would take to address the situation? This could be a valuable opportunity for everyone to share insights, discuss preparedness, and collaborate on improving our collective response strategies.
