Hello strategic skills collaborative!
Did you know, 1 in 10 public health workers report wanting more training in Effective Communication? (https://www.phwins.org/dashboard/explore?topicId=6&subtopicId=40
Click to follow link." target="_blank" rel="noopener">PH WINS)
Effective Communication is "an interactive process of partnership and dialogue that leads to the exchange of information and ideas with a variety of groups in order to influence behaviors, policies, and social norms" (de Beaumont Foundation). It is not just how we might talk about public health, but the skill of communicating in diverse forms with many different audiences across multiple platforms. Without effective communication, we can't move the needle on public health issues!
So, this month, we are asking you – how have you built your communication skills?
We would also love to hear how do you help others build their skills? And what are the key questions or hot topics you face?
Here are some great resources we have used:
- The de Beaumont Foundation has many resources, here are some of our favorites:
- This blog post discusses effective ways to talk about public health
- This tool kit shares tips and tools for communicating about public health with policymakers
- Access a wide variety of communication focused webinars here
- Cornell has developed many trainings on Effective Communication – access them below:
- Strategic Communication Training Series – a three-part training series to help you and your team share success stories and project impacts through engaging and well written communication products
- Risk Management Training – a 5-part training on Risk Management with Module 4 focusing specifically on communication during an emergency
- You can also find some great trainings on this topic in the Strategic Skills Training Platform's Effective Communication Module - access that here!
We aim to host a virtual "lunch and learn" to discuss the questions and ideas you post here!
Looking forward to some engaging discussion and new resources!
