  • Breastfeeding and Early Childhood Nutrition Data

    Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and (DNPAO) has resources with data on breastfeeding and early childhood nutrition. These reports and tools can assist with program planning, evaluation, and education efforts:

    DNPAO’s newly upgraded Data, Trends, and Maps (DTM) ApplicationDTM provides up-to-date national and state-level data on multiple health outcomes and behaviors, including breastfeeding rates and fruit and vegetable intake. Users can create customized interactive charts, graphs, and maps.

    CDC’s National Breastfeeding RatesBreastfeeding rates from the National Immunization Survey-Child are published every year and offer national- and state-level indicators on breastfeeding rates at various infant ages, by state and by sociodemographic characteristics. 

    CDC’s Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) Reports: CDC’s National, Regional, and state mPINC reports provide data data on hospital policies and practices, which can be used by hospitals and public health organizations to improve support for breastfeeding mothers and their infants.

    CDC’s Early Childhood Nutrition Report, 2025: This resource provides data on several early childhood nutrition topics in a national report and corresponding state reports for all 50 states and D.C. Topics include breastfeeding, supports for infant feeding, first solid foods, healthy eating, and affordability of nutritious foods.  This report replaces and expands the offerings of CDC’s discontinued Breastfeeding Report Card.
