    Urgent Message from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Regarding Diamond Shruumz Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies Sold Nationwide

     

    June 27, 2024

     

    To Whom it May Concern:

     

    The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public safety alert on June 18, 2024, after receiving multiple reports of illnesses related to Diamond Shruumz Brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars, Infused Cones, and Micro & Macro Dose Gummies. Reports indicated a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

     

    We are reaching out because a number of consumers have reported purchasing these products across the country at retail smoke/vape shops, and retail locations that sell hemp-derived products such as cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC). We wanted to inform you so you can help spread the word and encourage consumers to report adverse events to the FDA.

     

    This message is being sent to numerous trade groups and organizations. Please disregard if it is not relevant to your specific group.

     

     

    FDA is urging all retailers to STOP selling Diamond Shruumz Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies products. Note: These products may appeal to children and teenagers. Please share the below safety alert to help protect consumers:

      • June 25, 2024 update: Recent lab testing indicates that the Diamond Shruumz Dark Chocolate Bar contains 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin), desmethoxyyangonin, dihydrokavain and kavain and the Diamond Shruumz Birthday Cake Chocolate Bar contains 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin).

     

    FDA and CDC, in collaboration with America’s Poison Centers and state and local partners, continue to investigate.  

     

    Consumers and retailers should report adverse events or side effects to FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program:

  • NACCHO Essential Skills Leadership Academy for IPC Staff

    Please join NACCHO’s Emerging Infectious Disease Program, in partnership with Cardea Services and with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Project Firstline, for a two-day in-person training. The two full day training event will take place on Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 as part of our Essential Skills Training Series. The series centers on essential skills for local health department (LHD) staff engaged in healthcare infection prevention and control (IPC) activities.  In-Person Event: Essential Skills Leadership Academy for IPC Staff   Date: August 28 & 29, 2024  Location:  St. Louis, MO     Register by July 24! Space is limited. Attendees will receive a full scholarship for attendance which includes the cost of training, flight, hotel, and per diem for LHD staff! Register here .    Essential skills, also known as soft skills, are integral for all LHD staff supporting IPC activities in healthcare settings. These skills impact workforce dynamics and are fundamental to patient safety and satisfaction. This Leadership Academy will provide LHD emerging leaders, team leads, supervisors, managers, and organizational leaders a space to use essential skills to cultivate an environment where IPC staff are supported and engaged. The training will build on the essential skills covered in this series and the facilitated process will focus on leadership’s critical roles in embedding equity and protective factors into the agency’s structure. The training will also support communication, which is crucial for building relationships in IPC work. By the end of the training, attendees will be better equipped to prioritize the organization’s role in supporting essentials skills, ultimately leading to a more engaged and productive IPC workforce.     By the end of this training, participants will be able to:    Identify action steps to center equity from a team or systems level; Identify action steps to integrate protective factors that support skill development and employee well-being in healthcare IPC; Identify action steps to support staff's communication skills to build and maintain relationships in IPC work; and Describe how they will assess organizational policies and practices to enhance essential skills across the IPC workforce. Important to know:     This is a two-day in-person training session, and attendees are expected to attend both training days.    Due to high demand for this training series, we are limiting the number of staff representing each LHD to two.  Attendees will be provided with a full scholarship (including the cost of training, flight, hotel accommodation for up to three nights, and per diem).    Scholarships and space are limited.
